With sensible cars such as the Nissan Micra, Juke and Qashqai you could be mistaken for thinking that all of Nissan's cars are sensible, average vehicles. You would be wrong. Even when it comes to Nissan's greats, such as the Nissan 370Z and GT-R you would be forgiven for thinking they were the fastest of the Nissan bunch.
Well now it has been revealed that Nissan is getting involved with the DeltaWing concept experimental car which is set to hit some phenomenal speeds, thanks to its 1.6-litre direct-injection turbocharged engine, pumping out 300bhp and delta-wing aerodynamics (seen on the Concorde and Vulcan). The car will be participating in the Le Mans 24 hour race this year, but the car will not be 'competing' as it is not eligible for outright honours. However the vehicle was awarded a place by ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest) who organise the race.
Paul Willcox, Senior Vice President, Nissan in Europe, said: "Nissan is a very innovative, forward-thinking company prepared to take a risk or two. And exactly the same applies to Nissan DeltaWing. Our involvement in the project shows the boldness of Nissan from an engineering and innovation mindset."
The car produces great power but uses very little fuel which is what makes it such a talked about vehicle. I can only imagine what this car could do with a bigger, more powerful engine. One things for sure if they do make this car more powerful (or available as a Leasing option) we will let you know, so watch this space.
