Order books have opened for Volkswagen's new gran turismo flagship, the Arteon, available from £34,305. Intended to replace the now defunct CC and sitting atop the VW UK product line-up, the Arteon is Volkswagen's new rival to the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. We think it looks great – it's macho and aggressive with a super-strong profile.
At 4,862mm in length and a girth of 1,871mm, it's a biggie, too. Its generous wheelbase of 2,837mm allows the comfortable carrying of five adults who will also enjoy best-in-class legroom. Luggage space is 563 litres with the rear seats in place, rising to 1,557 litres when the rear seats are folded.
In the UK, the Arteon range will initially offer three turbocharged engines: a 280ps 2.0-litre TSI petrol and two 2.0-litre TDI diesel engines with outputs of 150ps and 240ps. More engine options will follow by the end of the year. Transmission choices include front- and all-wheel-drive, a six-speed manual gearbox and VW's own seven-speed DSG automatic.
Available only in two trim levels – 'Elegance' and 'R-Line' – the Arteon comes packed with a comprehensive line-up of the latest infotainment, connectivity, and assistance systems and represents the jewel in Volkswagen's technological crown.
