Toyota has reinvigorated its British-built Auris range for 2018, with greater emphasis placed on powertrains and equipment grades.
The line-up of hatchback and estate models enters next year with a choice of two powertrains – a 1.8-litre petrol-electric hybrid (currently the choice of almost three quarters of UK Auris customers) and a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, available with either six-speed manual or continuously variable transmission.
On the equipment front, the entry-level 'Active' trim grade has been discontinued, making 'Icon' the new entry point to the new Auris line-up. For both the hatch and wagon, this brings 16-inch alloys, reversing camera, front fog lights, power windows, six-speaker audio with DAB and climate control as standard. The optional 'Toyota Safety Sense' package provides a pre-collision system, auto high beam, lane departure warning and road sign recognition.
'Icon Tech' models add cruise control and Toyota Touch 2 with Go, adding navigation and connectivity functions to the multimedia system.
'Design' is a style-oriented trim grade which brings 17-inch alloys, black side sills, Alcantara upholstery, sports front seats and rear privacy glass. There's also cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, auto-folding door mirrors and auto headlights and wipers.
Top of the range 'Excel' models add voice command and text-to-speech functions to its Toyota Touch 2 with Go package. Additional features include intelligent park assist, LED headlights, smart entry and push-button start/off, heated leather seats and dual-zone climate control.
The 2018 Auris 1.8-litre petrol-hybrid models are on sale now, with the 1.2T versions becoming available from early January.- WG
