Ford recently unveiled the all-new 2018 Mustang, which is more powerful, better looking and faster than ever. Here's everything you need to know…
Again offered as a fastback and a convertible, the new Mustang wears a more sleek and athletic appearance. The bonnet profile is lower than before with integrated air intakes and a revised lower grille. Not only do the changes give it a sharper and more bullish aggressive front-end, it should also improve the car's aerodynamics. In addition, a large front splitter has been added to increase downforce, and help keep the front end planted to the ground. At the rear, the bumper and diffuser elements have been remodelled and quad-tip tailpipes have been added.
All variants now get daytime running lights and LED headlights as standard and the choice of three new metallic paint colours - Kona Blue, Orange Fury and Royal Crimson - and new 19-inch forged alloy wheels in nickel, ebony black and polished aluminium.
Inside the car, the interior has been upgraded to a more premium look, including the use of soft-touch materials and aluminium finished door handles. A customisable 12-inch digital instrument cluster has multiple configurations that change to suit the requirement of the driver in different scenarios. An additional eight-inch Ford SYNC 3 touchscreen infotainment system, which is compatible with Apply Car Play and Android Auto, is mounted to the dashboard's centre.
Powering the new Mustang is the trusty 5.0-litre V8 engine which has 450PS and 529Nm of torque and is paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox, equipped with Auto Stop/Start capability. The 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine delivers 290PS and 440Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. However, both engines can be specified with either manual or auto transmissions.
The 2018 Mustang is also equipped with launch control to improve off-the-line performance. In its top spec variant, the Mustang can sprint from 0-62mph in just 4.3 seconds. Ford engineers have also recalibrated the dampers and stiffened the rear suspension to improve in-corner handling.
Two new drive modes – 'drag strip' and 'my' mode, join 'normal', 'sport', 'track' and 'snow/wet' modes to offer more choice and personalisation in how the car performs. 'My' mode enables drivers to customise their preferred settings for performance, dynamics and exhaust sound.
Ford has also added more driver assistance systems to improve the car's overall safety. These include pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control and distance alert, lane departure warning and lane-keep aid – WG.
